In my experience the KTM should have the intakes checked every 250-500 miles in hard use and 500-750 miles easy use, your millage may vary. The exhausts are not an issue and can go 3X that. I rode a KTM 500 EXC as a featherweight ADV platform for several thousand mixed-use miles. I would NOT go under 500cc for anything that you expect to be able to keep up with highway traffic, but the EXC could hold 70mph just fine - did plenty of highway miles on it.
